This is a space to crowdsource a timeline of online communities in the Canadian public service. Thanks to Amanda Clarke for initial work on developing this timeline. See the front page of the workspace for further context.

 

Where possible please add months (or exact dates if known). Hyperlinks to primary sources or additional info are always helpful. And as a wiki, if you think the structure of this page sucks feel free to improve it!

  • 2009/10? Communications Community Office (CCO) develops Considerations for the Government of Canada's Use of Social Media to Communicate with and Engage the Public (1st wide-scale consultation in GC via wiki?)
  • 2009, January - soft launch of GCconnex 
  • 2009 Clerk: wiki and collaboration (Is this reffering to Clerk's consultation via GCpedia front page?)

  • 2011, April 18 - Signed onto Open Government Partnership

  • 2012 Minister Clement's Twitter townhall (first live Twitter townhall by Canadian Cabinet Minister)
  • 2012, January 25 Collaborative Management Day 
  • 2012, November - Deputy Minister Committee on Social Media and Policy Development launched (DMSMPD), with Reverse Mentors for each Deputy; Twitter account, GCpedia and GCconnex presence (1st time for a DM-level committee)
  • 2013, January 16- First meeting of DM SMPD. Reverse mentors attended 2nd meeting (March 1, 2013) 
  • 2013, March - Minister Clement hosts a Google Hangout on open data  
  • 2013, June 23 - Blueprint 2020 launched
  • 2013, September - Chat feature (Comet Chat) added to GCconnex 
  • 2013, December - DM SMPD becomes Deputy Minister Committee on Policy Innovation (DMCPI). #PolicyInnovation hashtag increasingly used. 
  • 2014, March 6 - TBS launches Policy on Acceptable Network and Device Use (first mention of #w2p in official GC policy - see Appendix B) 
  • 2014, March/April - DMCPI hosts "Virtual Policy Challenge" on GCconnex 
  • 2014, May 12 - Destination 2020 report released (culmination of BP2020 consultations)  
  • 2014, May 12 - PCO Innovation Hub announced in Destination 2020 
  • 2014, June 19 - Department of Justice and Public Safety host Government of Canada Policy Bazaar 
  • 2014, February 18 Collaborative Management Day
  • 2014  April 24th - 1st ever GC Social Media Practitioners Summit was held, which led to the launch of the Social Media Community of Practice #SMCoP
  • 2014, October - Open Data Portal evolves into Open Government Portal
  • 2014, October 9 - Directive on Open Government ("open by default")
  • 2014, November 6 - Open Government Action Plan 2014-2016 (second action plan, "OGAP 2")
  • 2014, December 2 - NRCan IN·spire Hub Fail Fair
  • 2015, February - PCO Innovation Hub Open House launch 
  • 2015 , March - GCforums sunset
  • 2015, April 16 - Blueprint 2020 Innovation Fair
